{{{Pay Per Click can be one of the fastest ways to either make or lose money online – so I am going to list my TOP TIPS for using pay per click to make money and avoid the money pits which await the unwary.
You won’t find any long winded explanations or drawn out theories in this article, just hard won facts and personal experience to help you save time and money on your new or existing pay per click campaigns and maximise your online income from PPC advertising - until your free organic search engine traffic grows to a level where you no longer need to pay for traffic!
So let’s cut straight to the chase with the tips -
TOP TIP
Research is crucial to pay per click success, and the whole purpose of your research is to find out what people are looking to buy and then and only then do you find a product to sell to them, otherwise you could find yourself in the same position as a friend of mine who spent thousands of pounds filling his garage with water filters, only to find that although people seemed quite keen to talk about water filters, not very many people actually wanted to buy one!
Hot Tip No 2
Don’t rush in and use the most obvious keyword or phrase for the product/subject you have chosen – the competition for these keywords will be massive and as a result you will bankrupt yourself trying to compete.

Hot Tip No 3
Don’t use general keywords or phrases, this will attract browsers and tyre kickers and you will bankrupt yourself trying to convert.
Hot Tip No 4
Do research less obvious, long tail (3-5 words) keyword phrases that are very specific to your niche area. There are several excellent keyword research tools that will help you to do this.
These long tail keyword phrases will bring you inexpensive laser targeted traffic allowing you to compete and convert with the best of them!

Hot Tip No 5
Use dynamic keyword insertion to make sure your potential customer sees their exact keyword or phrase in your adwords ad title whenever possible.
Hot Tip No 6
Keep your adgroups tight – I personally recommend just one main keyword per adgroup, then include the singular and plural versions of that word and also the broad match/phrase match/exact match options until you discover which ones bring you the most traffic and best conversions for that keyword.
TOP TIP
Always run, test and compare at least 2 different ads for each ad group, after 200 impressions remove the ad with the lowest conversion, keep the ad with the highest conversion and make a new and identical one to the ad you have kept, but with one alteration and repeat the process (always compare ads over all time).
Hot Tip No 8
Once a keyword/phrase has received 200 impressions look at the conversion (CTR) for that keyword/phrase, if it is below 2% try to improve the ad for that keyword/phrase and repeat the process.
Once the keyword/phrase has had another 200 impressions check the CTR, if it is still below 2% delete or pause that keyword/phrase from the campaign.
TOP TIP
Start with a higher cost per click CPC than you really want to pay, but continually monitor the CTR and average position (Av Pos) and as these improve, reduce your CPC by 1p or 1 cent at a time – until your campaign becomes profitable and you start to Make Real Money Online.
Hot Tip No 10
Make sure you know your website conversion rate and understand what you can afford to spend on pay per click to make a profit – unless of course your adwords campaign is only to promote brand awareness or build a list.
Hot Tip No 11
Try to create a sense of urgency in your ads – and communicate the benefits of your product/service – not just the features. For example, a feature of your product may be that it will help you to Start an Internet Business, but the real benefit of the product is that it will help you to Earn Extra Money At Home .

Hot Tip No 12
Make sure your keywords are extremely relevant to your adgroups. Make sure your adgroups are extremely relevant to your ads and make sure your ads are extremely relevant to your landing page.
TOP TIP
Don’t forget to install negative keywords, both at ad group and at campaign level.
Hot Tip No 14
Continually search for new but less obvious keyword phrases, some of these less searched phrases will often give you your best CTRs.
