The goal with a small kitchen remodel is to create as much space as possible for the storage of items that are the most important to you and the way you cook. Now is the time to not only remodel but individualize your new kitchen by making it function the way you live. By giving some thought to making the most of the space you have, try to enlarge your kitchen plans. Maybe your kitchen has an adjacent breakfast area or cozy dining space. These are perfect areas to add space to your new plan. Try to enlarge your existing kitchen space. Opening up your floor plan and making an eat in type of kitchen with seating at an island or peninsula type of cabinet plan rather than a table and chairs in an adjacent area works well. If space is still too small check out utilizing an island mounted on casters that can easily be rolled out of the way when not in use. Does your current design allow you to cut into an existing wall and install a built in pantry? You should consider the idea of demolishing existing ceiling soffits so you can make the new cabinets taller for more storage. This is the ideal space to hide away things not used daily or seasonal specialty cookware. Maximize your counter space by opting for appliances designed for small-scale kitchens. Setting Up a new microwave range hood combination unit can open up valued counter space where the microwave once sat. Take a close look at the many options for under cabinet appliances. Maybe an under cabinet coffee maker or TV Set would extend even more counter space. The refrigerator is usually the most colossal appliance in the kitchen. Shop for a counter depth refrigerator. These models are planned not to go past the depth of a standard work top and can result in increased kitchen floor area than regular refrigerators that are 30 or more inches deep. Remember to use the space above the refrigerator. Add a full depth cabinet over the refrigerator into the kitchen plans as opposed to a standard 12 inch deep wall cabinet. Light and color do play an important role in offering the perception of more space. A bay type kitchen window or even a sky light will provide the bigger feel you need to make in your new kitchen. Employ these ideas to your small-scale kitchen design. You may just feel you have more room than you think and you will certainly enjoy using your spacious more efficient kitchen.
