Selecting the Right Siding Contractor

By: Odis Lott

You have finally decided not to paint your home for the hundredth time; instead you are going to put up siding. Installing siding can be a DIY home improvement project. Unfortunately many do-it-yourselfers find that they are beyond their ability once they start. So save yourself the troubles and find a contractor from the beginning.
While looking for a good siding contractor it would be helpful to see some of their recent work. Also, make sure the company is legitimate. Confirm that the insurance policy they carry and their state license is valid and current. A good way to find an established siding contractor would be to ask friends and family who have ever had siding put up or simply consult your local yellow pages. Another option is to go online.
When you find a company you feel comfortable with, it is important that have them provide you with a contract for exactly the work rendered. Specify a reasonable timeline in which you hope the job to be complete and get it in writing. Make sure to read your contract before you sign it, and double check that the payment conditions are within your financial means. This may seem like a lot of paperwork and headaches just to hire someone, but do not forget this is your house and you want it to the most beautiful. Anyway contractors like to know what is expected of them upfront, it reduces any misunderstanding later on.
